En marzo de 1996, Pat Mora, nativa de El Paso, Texas, y autora de libros infantiles de reconocimiento internacional, lideró una campaña para la adopción de El día de los niñxs/El día de los libros. Desde 1996, muchas organizaciones como las escuelas y bibliotecas han colaborado para relacionar El día del niño con el lenguaje y la literatura como forma de promover el bienestar de los niños.
El día de los niñxs/El día de los libros ha contribuido a expresar la alegría que nos produce leer libros y compartirlos con los demás, especialmente con los niños. Las historias contadas en los libros permiten a los padres, profesores y hermanos mayores establecer conexiones con los alumnos, hijos e hijas. El regalo de la lectura permite a los niños sumergirse en el mundo de los libros y utilizar sus habilidades creativas para hacer sus propios libros, ya sean libros de palabras o libros ilustrados. El día de los niñxs/El día de los libros permite a adultos y niños por igual reír, asustarse, imaginar lo inimaginable, viajar a tierras lejanas y experimentar nuevas emociones a través del poder de los libros.
El día de los niñxs/El día de los libros permite a los padres y a los educadores leer libros a los niños, tanto en inglés como en español, honrando al mismo tiempo la herencia, la cultura y el idioma de cada niño. El poder de los libros puede utilizarse para fortalecer a las familias y las comunidades. Día anima a los niños a amar la lectura tanto en inglés como en español, al tiempo que les permite desarrollar su vocabulario en ambos idiomas.
El día de los niñxs/El día de los libros, celebra a los niños, las familias y la lectura durante todo el mes de abril. Esta celebración hace énfasis en "la importancia de la literatura para los niños de todos los orígenes lingüísticos y culturales". El día del niñx or “Children's Day” is a celebration founded in 1925 in Mexico that is celebrated annually on April 30th. It is now observed in many Latin American and other countries around the world. El Día del Niño is more than merely an event that takes place on April 30th but is aimed at recognizing children as important members of society and promoting their well-being.

Día encourages children to love reading both in English and Spanish, while enabling them to develop their vocabulary in both languages.
El día de los niñxs/El día de los libros, celebrates children, families, and reading throughout the month of April.
