Art Exhibit ~ Drusilla Hill

Oro Valley Public Library invites you to an exhibit by artist Dru Hill, on display from January 16 - February 29, 2024.

Artist statement:

The paintings in this exhibit are the original artwork for the children’s book, “Sounds of the Desert”, written by Anna Hill and illustrated by Dru Hill. Winner of the 2022 Royal Dragonfly Book Awards Honorable Mention in Picture Books 5 & Younger, this book was a collaborative project between mother and daughter.

Jack rabbits, road runners, javelinas, and more all here for children to learn about the animals of the Sonoran Desert in this colorful, interactive children’s book. Fun onomatopoeias for each animal to say with your child as you read about their life in the desert and enjoy the intricately patterned original artwork.

These illustrations combine the colorful vibrancy of the Sonora Desert, and the unique nature of the desert animals. Sounds of The Desert is the perfect book for those who live in the desert, those who love the desert, and those wishing to learn more about its exceptional ecosystem.

Dru has a BA of Fine Arts and a Masters in Education. Her artwork has been shown in galleries across the U.S. She is a Signature member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild. Anna has a BA in International studies, is the mother of two, and has written several books available on Amazon.
