In this month's Electric Library series, Sarah S., Oro Valley Public Library, highlights another of their favorite E-Library tools: My Next Move - Career Assessment

What do you want to do for a living?

It’s a daunting question, right? At any age a job hunt can be intimidating, but when you’re in late high school or early college, every single possibility of what you could do sprawling out before you might feel like an impossible or even Herculean choice. The good news is that with the library, it doesn’t have to be scary to peruse your options!

We have a wonderful e-Resource available to you called My Next Move, which helps you search for careers you might be interested in. If you know what you’re looking for, you can search for the career with keywords, but it also offers options to search careers by industries or even to narrow down what you might be interested in using their Interest Profiler quiz.

Each job has its own webpage with a clear overview of the job, desired personality quirks and skillsets one might need to perform the job’s duties effectively, and the amount of education often required, average salary, as well as a job outlook on whether it’s likely that new positions will be opening in the future. If you want a job that’s similar to the one you have picked, they also have links to related careers! The user interface is easy to navigate, which can help take some of the stress out of looking for a job.

Now that you have the tools, go forth and succeed!
