Three Books on a Theme: Futuristic Fiction for Teens

The future of tech is exciting, and sometimes seems dangerous. Here are three futuristic YA novels to thrill you with possibilities.

Renegades

My favorite YA futuristic fiction is Renegades by Marissa Meyer. It's less alien sci-fi and more super hero sci-fi...which was fantastic. So many cool and diverse characters and the plot was so interesting the whole time. it's a trilogy, and each book is better than the last. Recommended by D'andra H.

Iron Widow

Booklist calls Iron Widow an action-packed adventure with not one but two engaging love interests found in Li Shimin, a murderous pilot, and the wealthy Yizhi. Readers will enjoy the banter between characters, as well as the queer representation in this complex, fierce debut. Recommended by Amy M.

Clockwork Curandera

Although this story takes place in 1865 (I know!) it's an alternate history that feels futuristic. School Library Journal says its creators pose the following question, "What if a curandera... had to become a cyborg to survive?" If you like cyberpunk, you'll love this first installment of a trilogy. Recommended by Jen M.
