Oro Valley Library invites you to an exhibit of paintings by Effie Anderson Smith, on display from June 1 - August 31, 2026.
Effie Anderson Smith (1869-1955) was an Arkansas born, early Arizona Impressionist painter of desert scenes and the Grand Canyon.Known publicly as Mrs. A.Y. Smith during her lifetime, she was the earliest resident woman landscape artist in the Arizona Territory, beginning with her arrival in Cochise County in 1895.
The artist presented solo shows of her timeless desert art embodying the Arizona experience from California to New York by the 1920s and 1930s.
Effie Anderson Smith’s most significant early exhibits took place at Tucson’s Santa Rita Hotel, the Arizona Inn and the Tucson Woman’s Club. Included were her oil paintings of Cochise Stronghold and Cave Creek Canyon in the Dragoon and Chiricahua Mountains and numerous views of the Santa Catalina Mountains.
The Effie Anderson Smith Museum & Archive is pleased to bring these fine art prints of E.A. Smith’s art to Oro Valley.
