We recently published a coloring book highlighting the Library's multiple affinity teams. The coloring book is now available at all library locations! To celebrate, we asked some of the featured artists to share their artistic influences and more!
Today's featured artist is Mylo Brooks.
Who are your artistic influences?
I am inspired by many forms of media like early 2000s video games, fashion, dance, and films. Some of my favorite visual artists are Vewn (Victoria Vincent), Yoshitaka Amano, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Jack Stauber. I love unique styles and expressions, over form and practicality.
What is your favorite art piece?
Very commonly known, but Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" may always stay as my favorite art piece. When I was a child, I admired the ability to paint things based on feeling, and it is a piece that always calms me too. Van Gogh's life also shows us that being intuitively emotional is not a bad thing, we just need the right support. It is easy to do one nice thing a day for someone else, and "Starry Night" reminds me we are always looking at the same sky at the end of the day as humans.
If your art could appear in any museum in the world, where would it be?
I would love to one day be featured at MoMA in New York. This museum also houses "Starry Night." I like to fantasize that my gallery exhibit would have lots of plants and live music!
Artist Bio: Mylo Brooks
My name is Mylo Brooks. I am a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Cuk Son, Arizona. I have worked at the library for 5 years, and within that time I have come to honor access to information. I have done work for our Seed Library, and Many Nations and Pride teams, among other initiatives like our Bookbike and Spread the Wealth programs. I hope everyone reading this knows there is a space for them at the library, too. As an artist, I tinker with music, visual art, voice acting, graphic design, and dance. Much like my artistry, the library holds multitudes of ideas, people, and creativity. Thank you to all who support libraries!
