Joel D. Valdez-Main Library invites you to view a historic exhibit created by the Daughters of the American Revolution, on display at the library from June 1 through July 31, 2026. Nine panels will be installed along the gallery walls for public view.
In celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary, we honor all who contributed to the success of the American Revolution, including the Spanish soldiers, ranchers, and settlers in Nueva España, now the American Southeast and Southwest.
One woman and seven men, Spaniards and Criollos, are featured in this display, honoring the Hispanic people who contributed to the war for independence by providing funds, cattle, and other needed supplies to the colonists. These remarkable people lived and worked throughout Nueva España which now stretches from Florida through Louisiana, the Gulf Coast, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.
Please come view the display to learn more about the Hispanic Heroes patriots: Doña Leonor Delgado, José Antonio Curbelo, Bernardo Miera y Pacheco, Juan Francisco Ruiz del Canto, Juan Santiago Seguin, Ignacio Vallejo, Bernardo de Galvez, and Juan Manuel Ortega who has a grave marker in Tubac!
