Artist Statement:

Why do I create images? A love of mixing and applying color and a desire to express thoughts and emotions using strokes of all sorts is key to my mental health. Improving my execution and compositions brings me purpose. Sometimes, there is an important idea I want to share that’s on my mind. Other times, it’s just the love for flowing colors that makes me happy.

What do I create? With a high color palette, I use oils, egg tempera, acrylics, pastels, ink, oil sticks, mixed media, colored pencils, gouache, and creative software using a digital tablet to make all types of images. Some are planned creations that are complex compositions. Others are unplanned ‘happy accidents’ in the joy of the moment. I‘m fond of reliving memories or nature scenes which helped to shape my life. Growing up, my family camped in the mountains. A strong connection to nature continued as an adult with backpacking, rock climbing and sailing on the West Coast. Most of my scenes are created out of memories. Some 80‘s and 90’s adventures happened in the South with kids.

How do I create? I started training in art expressions as a young girl in southern California at a tiny art school for kids. I majored in art in high school and continued with art classes during my working life in the graphic arts field. With an AA degree in design, and private workshops like Alan Flattman oil and pastels workshop. There was training in perspective, print making, photography and lithography. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are digital tools in use for several decades; they help with composition and experimenting with ideas.
