Celebrate young poets at the Golden Hour Showcase!

(Tucson, AZ) After sharing their poetry at Richard Elías-Mission, Valencia, and Woods Memorial libraries, select poets ages 9 - 18 will participate in the culminating Golden Hour event:

Golden Hour: A Showcase of Youth Poets
Sunday, June 28 from 5 to 6 pm
Fox Tucson Theatre, 17 W. Congress St.

Hosted by the Library's Many Nations Team, this showcase will offer an inspiring event of original poetry performed live by talented, local young writers on the Fox Tucson Theatre stage! As the sun sets and golden hour fills the theatre, audiences will experience powerful voices, creative storytelling, and unforgettable performances from youth across the community.

Admission is free, but please RSVP to help us estimate attendance: foxtucson.com/event/golden-hour/.

Many Nations President and Golden Hour creator, Lindsey Curley, says, "An event like Golden Hour demonstrates how the library will continue to evolve alongside our diverse communities across Pima County. Something as inherently human as the oral tradition brings people together, as our words and stories hold tremendous power for connection. I am excited to see how far this facet of book culture can go in the future—it is our library’s ultimate form of generational wealth."

Of the partnership, Jordan Wiley-Hill, Outreach and Education Manager at Fox Tucson Theatre, says, "The Golden Hour Showcase is such a wonderful way to not only invite young people into the beautiful Fox Theatre, but to welcome them onto the stage to share their insights and perspectives through poetry.  Looking back on the Fox’s almost 100 year history of having local youth on stage, we know just how powerful these experiences are for young people as they find their voices and power, and grow into their place in our community!"

Trent, an 11th-grade student at Basis Oro Valley, will be reading his poem—"And I Am the Desert"—at the showcase. The Library recently received a Love Letter from Trent's mom, Sun, about the powerful role the Library has played in his life. To read his poem and learn more, take a look at this blog post.
