Do you use the OverDrive app? Now’s the time to switch to Libby!

In early 2023, the OverDrive app will be discontinued. We encourage you to make the switch to Libby, OverDrive's newer reading app.

Libby is made by OverDrive with the same goal of connecting you to your library and to your favorite ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines.

About this change

The only thing affected is the older OverDrive app.

The OverDrive website will stay the same, and you can access it on any browser.

The Libby app is also not changing. If you're already using Libby, you're good to go!

If you have a Kindle Fire and you've been using the OverDrive app, you can sideload the Libby app to your Fire by following these instructions or you can use the OverDrive website or Libbyapp.com in your Fire's browser.

How to switch

Step 1

Download Libby or visit libbyapp.com to get started

Step 2

Find your library and sign in

When you open Libby, you’ll be guided through simple setup steps to find your library and sign in with your card. Make sure to select Pima County Public Library (Tucson) as your library, not Pima Library (which is a little library in the small town of Pima, Arizona).

Step 3

Sync your OverDrive wish list

Once you’re signed in, you’ll be prompted to sync your OverDrive wish list from an in-app notification.

Step 4

Start reading & listening

Browse your library and find something new to borrow, or start reading the current loans on your Shelf.

Why is this happening now?

OverDrive launched the Libby app in 2017, with the goal of creating a simple and intuitive library app that builds on the core experience from the OverDrive app. They closely reviewed what was working with the OverDrive app and what could be improved. During this time, they didn't want to interrupt the experience for users, so the two apps have both been available.

Thanks to feedback from librarians and readers like you, Libby is now a great app for everyone and there's no longer a reason to have two apps that do the same thing. Libby continues to have new features and updates added based on reader and librarian feedback. Libby offers many unique features and options that are not available in the OverDrive app. See more about these features.

If you've enjoyed using the OverDrive app, we really hope you'll love Libby.
