Using NYT outside the Library

All you need is a redemption code to get free 24-hour access to the digital edition of The New York Times.

When you redeem your code:

1. Register for a free NYTimes.com account if you don't already have one:

  • Click on the Create Account button
  • Fill out the form
  • Write down what you create as your username and password—the Library cannot retrieve this for you later

If you already have an account, once you follow the link, you will see “Already have an account? Log In.” Use your previously-created account information (email and password) to log in.

3. Enjoy! You now have unlimited access to the digital edition of The New York Times.

As a Pima County Public Library cardholder, you have complimentary online access to the New York Times Digital Edition.

The Library's digital subscription provides current and historical New York Times dating back to 1851, including:

  • All regular newspaper content (articles, editorials, etc.) including the New York Times Book Review and Magazine
  • All multimedia, including video, photography, podcasts, VR features, and all new multimedia to come
  • Spanish and other language versions of nytimes.com
  • Personalized access, including email newsletters, mobile apps for phones and tablets, customizable news feeds, and article recommendations based on topics you most commonly read about

Use NYT from any computer or device, as well as the NYT app on portable devices.

Unfortunately you do not have access to the day's New York Times Crossword Puzzle and NYT Cooking apps, but you can access past puzzle and cooking content.

Using New York Times Digital App

The New York Times app is free and available for the following operating systems:

  • Android
  • iOS
  • Fire tablets

Follow the Using NYT outside the Library instructions above to access The New York Times on the app. You must use the same email and password in the app.

Library Subscription vs. Paid Subscription

While the library subscription includes access to many areas of The New York Times, there are some features and sections reserved for paid subscribers.

If you have questions about your access, please contact Customer Care, opens a new window at The New York Times directly.

There are some situations that will result in an error message:

  • You already have a NYTimes.com account set up and you try to login on the “Sign Up” screen
  • You try to login on the “Log In” screen and you don’t have an NYTimes.com account yet
  • You already have a personal, paid digital subscription to NYTimes.com associated with your email address
  • You currently have a redemption code activated (your 24-hour code is still active)

What if I am already a subscriber to NYTimes.com?

Your personal subscription already gives you all of the access that you can get through the Library. If you have a personal subscription and you try to use a library redemption code, you will see a message that states:

"It looks like you're already a subscriber. At this time, pre-existing Digital or Home Delivery subscribers are not eligible to receive gift subscriptions."

Apply online for an eCard and get access to the great resources the Library has to offer!
