The Library is here for everyone, LGBTQ+ programming a top priority

(TUCSON, Ariz.) – For 20 years, the Library’s LGBTQ+ Services Committee has dedicated itself to upholding the Library’s mission and values, including finding strength in celebrating our differences.

The committee is proud to offer a variety of events designed to better serve southern Arizona’s LGBTQ+ community and to provide welcoming, inclusive opportunities for all. Some events are offered throughout the year, while others fall in June and October, LGBT Pride and History months, respectively.

The Stonewall Series (new this year!) - An LGBTQ+ author and speaker series commemorating the 1969 riots at the Stonewall Inn, and the ongoing fight for equal rights for all people in the LGBTQ+ community.

Rainbow Reads: A Positively Queer Reading Circle - Alternating between book chats and book clubs, this reading circle is held on the 3rd Sunday of the month at Exo Roast Co.

  • Book chats – informal discussions about all kinds of books    
    • 1–3 pm during odd months (January, March…)
  • Book clubs – facilitated discussions about selected titles    
    • 1–3 pm during even months (February, April…)

Rainbow Storytime – Families of every kind are invited to enjoy stories and flannel boards, sing songs, and make crafts.

The LGBTQ+ Services Committee works throughout the year to improve the Library’s collection of LGBTQ+ materials, produce reading lists, and coordinate an annual author talk, which has featured such notables as Dan Savage, Alison Bechdel, and Todd Parr, among others.
