Color Our World with Summer Reading 2025!

(Tucson, AZ) Pima County Public Library is excited to announce the 2025 Summer Reading program, which begins today, June 2, and runs through August 2. This year's theme is Color Our World! To celebrate the theme, PCPL has created a beautiful and vibrant Lotería board (available in English and Spanish), which participants can find at their local library. Don't forget to grab a free book, while supplies last!

The newly-imagined Lotería board was created by the Library's Community Engagement Office to highlight and celebrate the colors found in Pima County, our cultures, library resources, and in books.

Jam packed with fun activities, summer readers and learners are encouraged to complete an activity and check off the corresponding square. Just like a regular game of Lotería, players need to complete a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) and visit their local library for a prize. Bonus! Complete every activity on the board and get a super fun prize!

Sample Lotería board activities include:

  • Take a picture of a rainbow or draw and color a picture of one.
  • Perform a favorite dance move for a library staff member.
  • Write a poem about summer activities and check out a book of poetry.
  • Share your favorite book with a loved one or a library friend.
  • Try fruits of every color and make a list of the ones you've tried.
  • Visit a library and attend a summer reading program.

Have fun completing the activities and read, read, read all summer long! Looking for book recommendations? Check out the Library's website for staff-curated lists on all kinds of books for kids and young adults!

Alina Rowe, Library Services Manager, says, "There are many different forms of literacy, and we felt that these activities will allow kids to be creative during their summertime and will help them to channel their talents.  With the help of the library, they can build a long-lasting relationship with each other and their families."
