Steward Observatory – Origin of Name

The observatory was built as a memorial to Henry B. Steward by his widow, Lavinia. In 1916, Mrs. Steward, an amateur astronomer, gave $60,000 anonymously towards construction but died before the observatory was opened.

Steward Observatory is located on the University of Arizona campus near north Cherry Avenue and the University of Arizona mall.
