Joesler-Designed House Destroyed in Move

The widening of North Campbell Avenue in 1979 affected the neighborhoods and homes along the route. One of the houses set for demolition had been designed by famed Tucson architect Josias T. Joesler. The homeowners, Peter and Kathy Chinook attempted to preserve the house by moving it from North Campbell Avenue to a property on San Simeon Drive.

The 2,500 square foot, 60 ton house was loaded onto a trailer and transport began. Unfortunately, near its final destination on San Simeon Drive, the house slid off of the trailer and broke into pieces when it fell into a ravine. No one was injured in the accident.
