Houghton Road in Tucson is pronounced "how-ton" by Tucsonans.
Houghton Road was named for the Houghtons, a family from New England. The Houghton family pronounced their name “hoe-ton.’ The Houghtons acquired property on Tucson's east side in the late '30s. They built an all blue and white New England-style house there.
