Guapo Way—Origin of Name

Guapo Way was named after Jose Rincon Jr., 14, killed by a drunk driver in January 2008. Jose Rincon Jr. was riding a bicycle on East Broadway when he was killed by a drunk driver. Guapo means handsome in Spanish and it was Jose Rincon Jr.’s nickname.

The street, located between El Con Mall and Fifth Street, was originally named Jones Boulevard. It was renamed Guapo Way in remembrance of Rincon because, as a child, he learned to ride a bicycle in this area.
