David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz Park

On October 22, 2001, the name Oury Park was changed to David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz Park. This park is located at 600 W. St. Mary's Road (near St. Mary's and I-10).

This park was originally named after William S. Oury on June 29, 1931. William Oury was first appointed mayor of Tucson in 1871. He also served as a sheriff of Tucson for many years.

David G. Herrera worked at Santa Rosa Park from 1950 to 1964, then later at Oury park where he organized sports for youth. He also helped organize home repairs for low-income residents in the area. More recently, Herrera has been involved in organizing the "Procession de Viernes Santo" on "A" mountain on Easter weekend.

Ramon Quiroz worked with David Herrera. He started a senior softball league that has been in existence for 15 years. Quiroz has organized and maintained the Barrio Anita Basketball tournament for the last 20 years.
