Barraza Aviation Parkway—Source of Name

Barraza-Aviation Parkway was originally named for the old Aviation Highway that followed the same route as the current parkway. The route traveled southeast from town towards Davis-Monthan Air Force base, the site of Tucson’s airport.

Barraza was added to the parkway’s name in 1994. Barraza is in honor of Maclovio Barraza, a union leader for copper miners in Arizona and New Mexico. Maclovio Barraza died in 1980.
