Artist Statement:

Chunyan (Rosey) He's journey as an artist began in 2019 during one of the most difficult chapters of her life. That Spring, a friend invited her to the Tucson Chinese Christian Church where just one week later on Easter Sunday she was baptized. In coming to know God she found the strength she would soon need. Not long after, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Her church family surrounded her in prayer ad in June 2019, she began chemotherapy. During that time, her daughter brought art supplies so they could draw together. Her daughter soon lost interest in drawing, but Rosey picked up the pencils and brushes. Though she had never practiced drawing before, God guided her hand and she discovered a gift she didn't know she had - Painting the desert landscapes around her. Art became her timeline.

By November 2019, she had her mastectomy. After recovering from her surgery, the same church friend invited her to go hiking. From then on, painting and hiking became her therapy - healing both body and spirit. To this day, art is not only her passion, but also a gift from God, reminding her that beauty and purpose can rise even from the darkest seasons.
