Oro Valley Library invites you to an exhibit by local artist Chunyan He, on display from September 2 until October 15, 2025.
Artist Statement:
My name is Chunyan He (Rosey), and my journey as an artist began in 2019, during one of the most challenging chapters of my life.
The week before Easter, a friend invited me to church. The very next week, on Easter, I was baptized, gaining the knowledge that God would soon become my strength. Not long after, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Right as the world was shutting down for COVID, in June 2019, I began chemotherapy. During that time, my daughter bought art supplies for us to draw and paint together. She eventually lost interest, but I continued to pick up the pencils and brushes. I had no idea how to draw before, yet God guided my hands to paint our beautiful desert landscapes that I did not know I could create. Art became my lifeline.
After recovering from a mastectomy in November, my Bible study friend took me hiking. Hiking offered another perspective of our breathtaking landscapes, with mesmerizing sunrises and sunsets which I love. Hiking and painting became my therapy, ways to heal both body and spirit. To this day, art is not just my passion, but a gift from God, a reminder that beauty and purpose can rise from even the hardest seasons.
