TREO (Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, Inc.)

Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, Inc. (TREO, pronounced like the word “trio”) was formed in July 2005. TREO was a non-profit consortium that consisted of many governmental and other non-profit business assistance agencies that promoted economic development in Southern Arizona. In 2015, TREO became Sun Corridor Inc.

History of TREO

According to an article in the Tucson Citizen, TREO was formed as a private, non-profit corporation headed by a board of directors that included Tucson's mayor, the chair of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, the president of the University of Arizona, the chancellor of Pima Community College and various business sector leaders. Tom Moulton was the vice president of administration and marketing. Joseph Snell became the CEO in August 2005.

TREO opened on July 1, 2005 with 18 employees in temporary offices, moving to remodeled office space at 120 North Stone Avenue later that month. The operating budget was just under $1.5 million - $746,240 from Tucson and $749,839 from Pima County.
