Raising Endowment (yes even for small organizations!)

Friday, July 12, 2013 7:30am - 9:00am

Laura Penny (as Executive Director of the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona) and Clyde Kunz (as consultant) worked successfully together on WFSA's first-ever endowment campaign. It was a daunting undertaking for a small organization with a limited budget and a staff of two! And to make matters worse, the campaign kicked off in October 2008 - the month that the country's economy really started to unravel. But today, the WFSA endowment stands at $1.6 million (with more than a dozen planned gifts designated to come to the endowment in the future) and is generating more than $60,000 annually in operating support. In this session, Laura and Clyde will explore some of the "nuts and bolts" of getting an endowment program up and running, as well as sharing some tips on making endowment "asks."

Laura Penny
Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona
Executive Director
Laura is a 33-year resident of Tucson, and has spent many of those years advocating on behalf of women as a volunteer for a variety of Tucson organizations. Professionally, she has worked in the criminal justice, behavioral health and education arenas, all of which have given her insights into the challenges women and girls face in overcoming economic, social, gender and political barriers. She joined the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona in July 2004. During her tenure, the Foundation has granted more than $1 million to Southern Arizona non-profits serving thousands of women and girls. Laura is the recipient of the Inside Tucson Business Women of Influence award, and the YWCA's Women on the Move award. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, and an M.Ed. from the University of Missouri.
