Our Neighborhood/Nuestro Barrio Photo Exhibit
Recent conversations about the concept of neighborhood, initiated by downtown development and the book La Calle by Dr. Lydia Otero, lead to this photo exhibit.
In late 2011, former barrio residents, their families, and other concerned citizens were asked to vote for their favorites of over 90 photos at a public showing at the Santa Rosa Library. The top choices were then reviewed and 18 photos were chosen based on their depiction of a variety of subjects and locations. These 18 photos make up the Our Neighborhood/Nuestro Barrio photo exhibit on display at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library.
What you'll see when you look at the exhibit are scenes of big events as well as people engaged in everyday activities. You'll see buildings that are long gone yet locations that still seem familiar. The result, captured in this exhibit, is the bygone Tucson of the early-to-mid-twentieth century that brought us to the Tucson of today.
