Books on Wheels
What is Books on Wheels?
The Library and the Pima County Bike Ambassadors have created the Books on Wheels program to bring books to customers who are home-bound and unable to visit our libraries.
Library volunteers select books for customers based on their reading interests. Then Pima County Bike Ambassadors deliver the books to customers once a month.
Currently the Books on Wheels program services customers living in the area around the following libraries:
How to Participate in Books on Wheels
If you would like books delivered to your home and you live near one of the libraries currently offering Books on Wheels, please contact the branch closest to your home and ask for the librarian listed below.
- Himmel Park Library, Brian Chanecka, 594-5305
- Joel D. Valdez Main Library, Karen Greene, 594-5500
- Murphy-Wilmot Library, Karen Barber, 594-5420
Once you sign up, a librarian will contact you by phone to discuss your reading interests. After a library volunteer has selected books that meet your interests, a Pima County Bike Ambassador will visit you every month to deliver and pick up your books. If there are special circumstances that our Ambassadors should know about to access your home (such as pets or building access issues), please let us know.
How to Volunteer for Books on Wheels
Volunteers for the Books on Wheels service select the books that will be delivered by the Pima County Bike Ambassadors. Book selections are made based on each customer's reading preferences. If you'd like to volunteer to be a book selector, please contact the librarians listed above.
