(TUCSON, Ariz.) – Effective immediately, the Salazar-Ajo Library (15 W. Plaza Street, #179) will close at 5pm on Mondays and throughout the week during the noon to 1pm lunch hour.

Complete hours at the Library are as follows:

  • Monday 9am–5pm (closed noon–1pm)
  • Tuesday 9am–7pm (closed noon–1pm)
  • Wednesday 9am–7pm (closed noon–1pm)
  • Thursday 9am–7pm (closed noon–1pm)
  • Friday 9am–5pm (closed noon–1pm)
  • Saturday 9am–5pm (closed noon–1pm)

The temporary modification is in response to two vacant positions, which the Library is in the process of filling. Currently, Library staff is evaluating applications and conducting interviews for two positions: Program Instructor and Library Associate.

Library Administration anticipates that the modified hours will be in place for the next one to two months. A press release will be distributed when the modified hours are no longer in effect.

While the search is being conducted, the Library system continues to support the Ajo location by sending staff from Tucson to help provide coverage during these limited hours.

Sharla Ronstadt, Library Services Manager, says, “It’s our ultimate goal to make sure everyone in Ajo who needs it has access to the Library. We will continue to send staff as long as it’s needed and will expedite the hiring process in order to provide as little disruption to the community as possible.”

Customers who aren’t able to make it to the Library during open hours are encouraged to visit to download and stream books, audiobooks, music, movies, and magazines from home or on the go. The website also offers in-depth learning opportunities by providing access to an extensive collection of digital resources in a broad range of subjects from arts & entertainment and language learning to genealogy and entrepreneurship.
