Libraries to open with limited services

(Tucson, AZ) Governor Ducey has announced Arizona's stay-at-home order will expire on Friday, May 15.

We’re happy to announce that we plan to open with limited services starting on Monday, May 18, at 10 am.

When we open, our goal is to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Here is what we are doing to keep you safe:

  • Setting up services to be as contactless as possible.
  • Maintaining 6 feet of physical distance from each other.
  • Wearing cloth face coverings and gloves.
  • Following cleaning and disinfecting protocols put out by the CDC and OSHA.
  • All buildings were thoroughly disinfected while we were closed.

We ask that you do your part to keep our staff and other customers safe. We ask that you:

  • Be willing to have your temperature taken before you enter the building. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be asked to come back at a later time.
  • Wear a cloth face covering. If you don’t have one, we will provide one.
  • Make sure your hands are clean. We will provide hand sanitizing stations.
  • Maintain at least 6 feet of distance from anyone else when you visit.
  • Keep in mind that your visit will be short.

We appreciate your help keeping everyone safe and healthy.

When we open, it will not be business as usual.

For the protection of the public and staff, we are putting in some parameters.

Limited services

  • We will offer holds pickup, limited computer use on a first-come, first-served basis, and use of our printing, copying, and fax services. More services will resume over time.

Limited hours

  • Libraries will be open Monday through Friday, 10 am to 5 pm.

Limited number of people in the building

  • Much like businesses, we will allow a limited number of people in the building at any time. Please be aware that you will most likely have to wait in line to get into the Library.

Limited access to the building

  • Spaces will be blocked off to allow for appropriate social distancing.

Limited time in the building

  • Your visit will be short, as we must keep building capacity low. We look forward to a future date when you can hang out in the Library, but right now, please plan to come and go quickly.

We know many of you have books to return…

  • Don’t worry about overdue fines. We will not charge fines on items that have been returned.
  • All returns must be placed in the book chute.
  • Staff cannot take items for you, and we are setting items aside for three days before checking them in.

Things will be a little different from library to library due to building configurations, staffing, and available resources. Please watch for signs and ask our helpful staff to help you navigate your visit.

We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work together in new ways.

The following libraries will not open on May 18. They will open at a future date.

  • Dusenberry-River Library
  • El Rio Library

Please use nearby libraries until these libraries open.

Use the Library from home!

We hope you are as excited as we are about reopening. Since our faces will be covered, you won’t see our smiles, but be assured, we will be happy to see you.
