(TUCSON, Ariz.) – Temperatures are creeping up and school is winding down… that means it’s almost time for Pima County Public Library’s 2019 Summer Reading Program!
We’ll kick off this year’s program on Saturday, May 18 from 6:30–9 pm at the Family Fiesta at the Tanque Verde Swap Meet (4100 S. Palo Verde Rd.). Come and enjoy live action stories from Make Way for Books, choose a free book to take home, visit the Bookmobile, make crafts, and visit with Curious George.
Summer Reading runs from Saturday, May 18 through July 13, when we’ll wrap up a summer of reading at MegaMania!!, our super popular annual con. Visit our website and choose from hundreds of fun, family-friendly activities, programs, and special events all summer long:
- Thursday, May 23, 2–3 pm: Portable Planetarium, Flowing Wells Library
- Wednesday, June 5, noon–1 pm: Theater of the Sea, Oro Valley Public Library
- Friday, June 28, 1–2 pm: Make a Pinwheel Galaxy, Santa Rosa Library
- and many more!
Starting Monday, June 3 kids and teens can stop by any library to pick up a free book, while supplies last.
Don’t forget your reading tracker! Get yours beginning Saturday, May 18. It includes a coupon for one free child admission to the Reid Park Zoo. Return it to any library to collect stickers and stamps to mark your progress along the way. You’ll get a certificate when you finish.
Summer Reading isn’t just for kids. Teens, we’re here for you, too! At the Library, you get to do what interests you! Attend events and summer camps in everything from computer programming to poetry writing. Have fun with friends and hang out at the Library. Explore tons of new hobbies like 3D printing and jewelry making. Build your leadership skills and make new friends by volunteering at your local library.
