(TUCSON, Ariz.) – Saturday, September 30, 2017 is the last day Flowing Wells Library, at 1730 W. Wetmore Road, will be open until late-summer 2018.
The Library will undergo a major renovation and expansion led by the award-winning and internationally-recognized Tucson architecture firm Line and Space LLC. The 5,000 square foot library, which opened in 2008, will be expanded to 13,000 square feet.
Reserves are not available for pickup at Flowing Wells Library during the closure. Materials cannot be returned to Flowing Wells Library, but can be dropped off at any Pima County Public Library location.
Nearby libraries are:
- Woods Memorial Library, 3445 N. First Avenue
- Nanini Library, 7300 N. Shannon Road
- El Rio Library, 1390 W. Speedway Boulevard

Karen Greaber, who manages the Flowing Wells Library, says, “Closing a library for any amount of time is not something we like to do, but we believe the changes will help us serve our community better. I’m sure our customers will be thrilled to see the upgrades we’ve got in store.”
The renovation will include many additions to the Library, including:
- A large multipurpose room, a room for children’s programming, and three study rooms
- More public use computers
- Outdoor patio with WiFi access
- Separate designated spaces for teens and children
- Family restroom
- New furniture
- Updated collection
While the Library is closed, customers are encouraged to visit the Bookmobile, which will stop at the Ellie Towne Center on the 2nd Monday (10am–noon) and 4th Friday (3:30–5:30pm) monthly beginning October 9. In addition, the computer lab at the Ellie Towne Center will offer expanded hours (Monday through Friday from 9–5pm) throughout the renovation.
