Annual Worlds of Imagination Art Contest

(Tucson, AZ) Calling all teens and tweens! The Library wants to recognize local, young artists for their science fiction, fantasy, comics, or manga-style artwork. Participants in each category will enter original artwork to win $50 of art supplies and some real-world art cred to put on their resumes.

All entries will be displayed at Joel D Valdez Main Library in October 2022.

How to enter

Entry forms are available in-person at libraries or onlineDeadline to submit work is Saturday, September 24, 2022. Reception for ALL artists and families/guests will be Wednesday, October 12 from 3:30 to 5 pm at Joel D Valdez Main Library.

Workshops

The Library is excited to offer two Worlds of Imagination Art Workshops to help participants prepare. These workshops will be led by local artist and Writer in Residence Adam Rex!

Composition: The Really Important Part of the Art That People Mostly Never Think About

Adam Rex, award winning illustrator of books and fantasy games, will take artists through his process of putting together an illustration. Attendees will follow these steps themselves to create the kind of rough compositions that make a solid foundation for a great picture. Participants should bring notepads and pencils and be ready to create!

Character Design: Making People and Creatures That Stand Out

Adam will explain everything he knows about designing characters. Attendees will design their own character, with Adam acting as their art director. Participants should bring notepads and pencils and be ready to create!
