All library locations will be closed on Monday, October 8 (Columbus Day) for an All Staff Day. Items on hold and due dates will be extended an extra day.(TUCSON, Ariz.) –
As a lifelong learning institution, the Library is committed to professional development and to offering staff opportunities to learn new tools and methods to better serve the community. The field of library service is ever-changing and staff need regular training to keep pace with customer service best practices.
Amber Mathewson, Library Director, says, “This day will be key to keeping staff up-to-date and poised to meet our customers’ needs.”
“We’re excited,” says Deputy Director Karyn Prechtel-Altman, “to offer this training to all of our staff. We’ll cover a wide array of topics, including customer service, resiliency, cultural competency, emotional intelligence, and organizational health.”
Strengthening skills and encouraging ongoing learning in our staff is integral to fulfilling the Library’s mission of transforming lives. This training day will ultimately benefit customers who rely on the Library for information, entertainment, and support.
The 2018 All Staff Day is funded in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences and the Arizona State Library Archives and Public Records through an LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant.
