On Saturday, June 8 from 3–4:30 pm at Dusenberry-River Library, local favorites Marge Pellegrino and Kay Sather will celebrate the launch of their new book, Neon Words: 10 Brilliant Ways to Light Up Your Writing, recently released by Magination Press.
Enjoy readings, a raffle, a short film, and a fun make-and-take activity from the book. We'll have refreshments, too.... mesquite cookies and prickly pear lemonade while they last!
Books will be available for purchase. 10% of proceeds will be donated to the Friends of the Pima County Public Library.
Former Writer in Residence Marge Pellegrino shared some thoughts about how she and co-author Kay Sather came together to bring the book to life:
Kay Sather and I met in a library workshop more than thirty years ago. We've been writing colleagues and friends ever since (a writing group can be an incredible entrance into friendship!).
I couldn't have had a better writing partner for Neon Words:10 Brilliant Ways to Light Up Your Writing. Kay is an accomplished writer and versatile artist. Sitting together over coffee once a week for close to a decade, we imagined. We played. We brought together the most effective writing tools we've used in our own writing practices over the last thirty years.
We included workshop-tested prompts that ask the writer to consider new ways of engaging with writing and their own life, prompts that invite the reader to play with ideas. And we included fun, creative ways to inspire writing, and also to physically honor the words by making a tangible work of art to keep, or to hold a message for sharing with someone else.
Some of the samples pictured in the book were written in library workshops and in the award-winning Word Journeys and Owl & Panther Expressive Arts Programs, as well as in classrooms at Amphitheater High School and Shanghai International High. Other wisdom shared in Neon Words comes from writers we admire and who have influenced our writing. This book is perfect for writers of all ages!
