The Loft Cinema Recommends the Movie, PCPL Streams It

Two of my favorite Tucson establishments: The Loft Cinema and the Pima County Public Library are turning your quarantine...

...into a staycation dream.

The Loft Cinema YouTube channel has begun uploading movie recommendations!  Get out of the mainstream rut and get top recommendations from the people who KNOW movies: the staff of The Loft Cinema!  And the best part of these recommendations is that many of them will be available on Kanopy, one of the streaming content services provided by your best pal for stay-at-home entertainment, the library!

How it works: Check back with The Loft's YouTube page often for updated recommendations, and their blog for upcoming favorites lists.  The videos include information in the drop down box about where to access the movie.  If one of those options is Kanopy, you'll be able to access it for free with your library card!

  • For viewing on a computer or mobile device:

From the library's home page, scroll down to "Streaming Video" and select Kanopy Streaming Video.  By starting from the library website, you will have the option to "Add Library Card" which is not available if you go directly to  Add your library card number and PIN and you're in.  You'll only need to do this once to create a standard login.  For example, the first time I logged in I tied it to my Google information.  Now I can log in without going through the library website, using the "Log In with Google" button; Kanopy recognizes it is tied to my library card.

Browse the titles, or use the Search bar at the top of the screen to go directly to a recommendation, like this!

And if you want to look for more family-friendly, kid-friendly movies, your regular Kanopy screen has the option to switch over to Kanopy Kids, so there is no need to register for the sites separately.  One of our family favorites is Eleanor's Secret, an animated feature about the magic of a library, of course...

  • To Stream to a Roku or other streaming device:

Check out the directions for every device from Apple TV to Telstra on Kanopy's Mobile & TV Apps Help knowledge base.  The thing to remember for every streaming device is that you must first set up your Kanopy account, with your library card, on a computer or mobile device, AND be logged in to Kanopy on that device when you set it up on your streaming device.

  • Here is the Fine Print:

Through the Pima County Public Library you may check out 10 titles per calendar month for three days (72 hours) each, timed from the first time you hit play.  There are no limits on the number of Kanopy Kids or Great Courses titles you may check out.  For more details, please see How Play Credits Work.

Remember that Kanopy is just one of our many streaming services, so pop some popcorn and enjoy your home time. You won't be running out of movies anytime soon.

We hope we'll be seeing all of our patrons at our branches soon, but until then, stay healthy!
