The TENWEST Festival is coming downtown Oct 14-21...
Organizers want to bring together culture-makers, technologists, professionals, and community builders to share perspectives, create innovative solutions, and celebrate what inspires Tucsonans. Through panels, talks, performances, workshops and mixers, TENWEST hopes to turn Tucson into a place internationally known for cultivating creativity and innovation.
We all know how great a town this is. How can we make it even better?
It’s $35 for a Full Festival Pass covering the whole week. I’m really excited about the Arts Path, especially Building a Vibrant Arts Community in Southern Arizona, but there’s a HUGE selection of panels and speakers on entrepreneurship, technology and community. Take a look at the TENWEST schedule or download the app to explore.
We’ll be celebrating TENWEST all week long with festival-inspired programming at Joel D. Valdez Main Library. Check out our press release and be sure to mark your calendar for some fantastic free events!
I'm hosting the Local Author Mixer on Wed, Oct 18 from 11:30-1:30 in the cafe area. Stop by and meet some of Tucson's local authors, pick up their books, or ask questions about how to improve your writing or get published. We'll have a mix of mystery, sci-fi, romance, poetry and non-fiction writers.I'm also super excited to hear DJ Brian spinning the library's new local music CD collection in the lobby on Friday, Oct 20 from 12-1pm!
Also, as the Main Library’s art gallery coordinator, I’m participating on a TENWEST panel called Artist-Business Connection: Understanding the Nuts and Bolts of Displaying Art in Public Spaces (Friday, Oct 20, 3-4). Whether you are an artist wanting to display your work in a public setting, or a business owner curious about creating a gallery space for artwork, you'll come away with a clear understanding of what it takes to have an artist/business display collaboration. I hope to see you there!
Following that, I’ll be heading back over the library for our Call to Artists: Submission Workshop (Oct 20, 4:15-5pm) sharing information about what goes on behind the scenes when the jury meets to select artists. We'll walk around the gallery so you can learn more about the space and ask questions. Artists interested in showing their work in a month-long solo exhibition during the 2018-2019 juried season can apply during the submission period: October 22-28, 2017. Check out the submission guidelines. All types of media are welcome.
