Alice has been attending ReadStrong tutoring once a week for the last couple of months. Alice came to ReadStrong because her teacher had communicated with her mom that Alice was having trouble comprehending what she was reading.
ReadStrong tutors understand that to help students build comprehension it helps to prompt background knowledge and help the reader make personal connections to the text. Alice’s ReadStrong tutor found some books at her level that are funny and familiar in topic. The tutor checks for comprehension often and re-reads a passage if Alice doesn’t understand what she has read. Alice’s comprehension and joy in reading have increased dramatically. Alice makes personal connections to the text more often without being prompted and is excited to see what happens in the next chapter of the book. Currently,
Alice is reading Bad Kitty goes to the Vet. She is excited to read all of the “Bad Kitty” books.
