Our first year of #ReadBlack was a great success! You told us you wanted more, and the Kindred team will now be offering a monthly version. This time around, we’ll mostly focus on a single title every month, but we’ll have some round-robin fun like last year, too!
Starting in February, join us on Zoom the fourth Saturday of the month for a facilitated conversation about a book each month, with the exception of June and December (see more about that further down). These books will cover a broad expanse of Black culture, literature, and history, and will be both fiction and nonfiction. So whether you prefer historical sagas or epic sci-fi adventures, there will be something for you.
We’ve already picked books for February and March, and subsequent books will be selected on a quarterly basis.
In June and December, drop in for the familiar round-robin book share style we featured at #ReadBlack events last year. Attendees can share one or multiple books on a theme, and we’ll make a list of all the books for the website, so more readers can discover something new.
- June’s discussion will be a repeat of Read Black Pride, where we’ll talk about books centering Black members of the LGBTQ+ community.
- In December we’ll Read New Black Books, and extoll the greatness of some of the books by Black authors that have come out in 2021
Our first book is Twisted.
Saturday, February 27, 2021, 1:00 - 3:00 pm
We'll read Song Below Water.
Saturday, March 27, 2021, 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Interested but unable to make it to the first one? Sign up to get monthly updates.
We’re excited to Read Black with you in 2021 and beyond!
