Reaching towards heaven, falling towards hell

Lazlo Strange has chased the myth of the forgotten city all his life. No-one remembers the name, but they call it Weep and none has since paralleled its lost glory. He has dreamt of escaping his life as a librarian and being a glorious warrior of the ancient city. Sarai is trapped up above, her luxurious home a hell. All her life she has dreamt of walking among humans. These two stories, seemingly separate, become impossibly intertwined in a quest for freedom, for glory, for redemption, for life.

Laini Taylor’s Strange the Dreamer will sweep you up in its breathtaking writing from the complex cast of characters, to the intricate imagery and story telling. The author of the best-selling Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy has truly outdone herself. I devoured this book, enchanted and intrigued. When I first picked it up, I had absolutely no idea what it was about and honestly, it was better that way. The story unfurled itself for you, making you feel as if you’re living in the novel itself, and as you draw the connections between plot lines, you only fall deeper in love with the story.

This is definitely on my list of “Top Books I’ve Read” and I am absolutely impatient for the sequel. Even though I’m normally not a fantasy fan, I adored this book, with its new plot line and mythology, completely unlike anything I’ve seen. I’ve become hopelessly attached to the characters and there is still so much potential and much to discover in this world. So if you’re looking for something unique and completely brand new, definitely pick this up!
