Well, it’s happened. School closures have been extended through the end of the year. But even if the thought of finishing your semester ONLINE strikes fear deep in your brain, there are some things you can do to make digital learning work for you! And now is the perfect time to put into practice some strategies that will help you succeed now and in the future.
First of all, look at the bright side of online learning—you get to make your own schedule (no more first period Calculus when you need to be are sleeping) and you can work at your own pace! Now that you are feeling more positive about the whole online thing, go ahead and get yourself organized.
The number one thing that causes panic and stress as an online student is lack of discipline. You have a phone with an alarm and calendar—set some kind of notice to check into your class at regular times, and no less than every two or three days.
Do the same with papers and assignments. Every other day, turn something in. When you finish binge watching “Tiger King”, your mind is so charged up that even cubic polynomial factorization makes sense!
Second of all, even with physical distancing as the new norm, you are never completely alone with just your screen for guidance. Not only can you FaceTime on your iPhone, you can have ten of the smartest friends you know on a Skype group video call (can’t leave out those Android users)!
But even more useful is BrainFuse, an online tutoring resource that is available every day from 2 pm until 11 pm. You have:
- free access to skilled tutors in every subject,
- easy collaboration with friends in a private virtual study room, and
- a writing lab for expert writing assistance with that pesky expository essay for English Language Arts!
We have a tutorial to give you an idea of how it works, and even a way to get a library card while staying six feet away from a librarian.
Between us, we have everything you need to conquer online learning.
