Love Letter to My Library: Chelsea Bayley

We're grateful to Chelsea Bayley for taking the time to submit this Love Letter.

Hello! I have three young children (ages 5, 3, and 1) and I want to tell you about what the Library means to them, and to me.

We’ve attended Storytimes throughout the year at quite a few libraries: Himmel Park, Eckstrom-Columbus, Martha Cooper, and Joel D. Valdez Main. This year, we enjoyed many amazing Summer Reading programs like Brain Games, Tohono Chul Desert Players Present: Where Saguaros Sing, and Rodents of Unusual Size.

I want to express my deep thankfulness for the valuable service that Storytime and other Summer Reading events provide to children and families in Tucson. Every program we have attended has been delightful and my children learn so much. They inspire conversations within our family, and we are grateful for the work and dedication of resources that go into these programs.

For us, it’s not just about attending programs. At each visit, we tend to check out more than a dozen (up to 20!) books. Right now, my children love the Fancy Nancy series and Skippyjon Jones. There is something so inherently satisfying about putting a book in their hands. We like e-books, but nothing really beats turning pages in a book. We’re happy you give us both options! We also love children’s books with CDs. Thanks for keeping those around – it seems like these are being phased out elsewhere.

I also want to express my gratitude for the Culture Pass program. I appreciate the opportunity to visit these great places. The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and the Tucson Botanical Gardens are among our favorites.

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful resources you make available to children and families!

With appreciation,

Chelsea Bayley, and the Bayley family
