Celebrating Kids’ Choices for Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros

kids holding cascarones that they madeOur Children’s Services team is excited to feature book comments written by children, for children, about children’s literature as part of our celebration of Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros, during the month of April.

For example, see what Jonah and Zarya have to say about a magical favorite: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

It has good guys and bad guys and magic. - Jonah, age 6.

What did you love about this series? "Everything!" - Zarya, age 8

Our goal is to put children in charge and give them each a voice.  Each child gets to choose which book they would like to comment on, and each comment's written in the child’s own voice. The other strengths of this project include providing children with a real-life, meaningful writing activity, and empowering them when they see themselves featured on the library's website and catalog.

Here's Harrison's take on Fast Break:

I like this book because it is about basketball. I recommend this book to sport lovers like myself. ~ Harrison, age 9

And Deviana's sage words on The cat in the hat / El gato ensombrerado:

He does a lot of funny stuff. ~Deviana, age 6

Read all their reviews here, and visit our homepage where we're featuring their picks on a special Kids' Picks carousel. We'll keep adding more throughout the month, too!
