Artist statement:

Kathleen “Leeny” Esposito has been a ‘fine print’ corporate attorney for over 20 years, most recently helping a large bank finance utility-scale wind and solar energy projects. In the office, “Leeny the lawyer” is exceptionally gifted at dealing with things in a very organized manner.

Until August of 2015, the only contact Leeny had with a paintbrush was in grade-school art class. Attending a wine/paint night at our local country club changed that. While the class was typical – focused on painting a bouquet of flowers – it uncovered a talent that is anything but.

Since dipping her artistic toe in the water, Leeny has created a steady stream of distinctly unique work, releasing a creative side that apparently has been pent up inside her for decades! Leeny’s creations incorporate a wide variety of media, from cut copper to corrugated cardboard, fire glass stones, foils and resin, creating unique textures that can be seen through the acrylic, glass, auto and other paints she uses.

While pictures of her work will give you an appreciation for Leeny’s creations and her amazing ability to develop new styles, there is nothing like seeing them in person. If you look closely enough, you’ll find something that will hold your eye, anything from amoebas to aliens. While none of these came from Area 51, they are out of this world, and given that Leeny was born in 1973, we have adopted Area 73 (www.area73art.com, opens a new window) as the vehicle for their display.
