Materials

  • Talking books/books on tape at all locations.
  • Large type books and magazines at all locations.
  • Descriptive videos (voice enhancements or voice/vocal descriptions of nonverbal action and settings). To search the catalog, use a subject search for video recordings for people with visual disabilities to see a list.

Equipment

  • ADA workstations that contain screen reader (Jaws) and screen magnifier (Zoomtext) available at three locations: Main (in the Assistive Technology Room), Mission, and Green Valley.
  • Magnifying glasses - ask at the Information desk.
  • Illuminated magnifiers available at Mission Branch Library.
  • Optelec Closed Circuit Television (large screen magnifier) available at Joel D.Valdez Main Library, Joyner-Green Valley, Nanini, Valencia, and Wilmot branches.
  • Juliet Braille Embosser available at Joel D.Valdez Main Library.
  • Arkenstone Open Book Software plus optical character recognition scanner (converts print to speech) available at Joel D. Valdez Main Library, Joyner-Green Valley, and Mission branches.
  • Kurzweil Reading Edge (stand alone scanner converts print to speech) available at Nanini and Woods branches.
