Adult Education Services
From the Arizona Department of Education. Classes include:
  • ABE
  • GED preparation and testing
  • English Language Acquisition for Adults for people who want to learn the English language
  • Citizenship program helps people prepare to take the Citizenship Test
LEARN Literacy Education And Resource Network Program
The goal of the LEARN program is to provide adults (18 years or older) in the community with the skills and attitudes necessary to complete a successful term of probation (for probationers), become functional members of society, and/or pursue future educational opportunities. LEARN is a service of Pima County Adult Probation, but serves any adults in Pima County. Each LEARN lab offers computer assisted instruction in:
  • Literacy
  • Adult Basic Education
  • GED preparation courses
Literacy Volunteers of Tucson (LVT)
The Literacy Volunteers of Tucson partners with the Library to offer adults in our community access to language learning and basic literacy skills in our branch libraries. If you would like to be a tutor, please contact LVT at 882-8006. Services include:
  • English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA) using team teaching for small groups of students.
  • Basic literacy skills (Adult Basic Education or ABE) using one-on-one tutoring.
  • ELAA conversation groups at some local libraries.
Pima Community College Adult Education
Offers classes in:
  • Adult Basic Education (ABE - basic reading, writing and math)
  • GED high-school equivalency preparation
  • English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA)
  • English and Spanish literacy
  • Citizenship preparation
Pima County OneStop
Offers the following services:
  • GED classes in partnership with Pima Community College Adult Education Program
  • Self-paced typing program
Somali Bantu Association of Tucson, AZ
Offers the following services:
  • ESL tutoring
  • ESL practice lab and library
  • Computer classes
  • Citizenship Assistance
  • Citizenship Classes

These books are of high interest to adult learners with a low-level vocabulary.
SmartReaders and SteadyReaders
High-interest matching audiobooks/book pairs: Great for those learning English or learning to read by listening to a book while reading it. They are recorded at various slow speeds.
