Mayors--Tucson
Before Tucson became incorporated as a town in 1871, the position of mayor had been appointed. Mayors were not elected until Tucson had incorporated. According to The Book of Tucson Firsts, "Jose Leon was the first civilian mayor of Tucson. He was appointed January 1, 1825...When the town incorporated in 1871, Sidney R. DeLong served as the first mayor to be elected."
