El Rio—Name Origin
In the 1930's a subdivision called El Rio Park opened up between Grande and Silverbell, west of what was known as Barrio Hollywood. ‘Soon the entire district was called El Rio, which included Barrio Hollywood as well as a cluster of houses north of Speedway surrounding El Rio Golf and Country Club.’"
