Simon Peter Passion Play

The Simon Peter Passion Play was produced in Tucson from 1979 to 2005.  This play was founded, written and developed by Tucsonan Katherine A. Genders.  The play was Tucson’s largest Easter passion play.  When Genders died unexpectedly in 2002 she left ownership of the play to her adopted daughter, Elizabeth Genders Martin.  The nonprofit organization that performed Simon Peter did not know about the copyright issue, and Elizabeth Genders Martin was only a teenager at the time she inherited the play, so copyright issue was never settled. So the performance of the play was suspended.

There was a passion play in Tucson in April 2006. The passion play was not "Simon Peter."  It was a Passion play put on by a former cast member of “Simon Peter.”  Michael Dohrmann put on a play titled, "On the Road to Jerusalem" that began April 13, 2006. This play was also performed in 2007, but ceased production in 2008.
