This park is named after Gene C. Reid, the city’s first Park and Recreation director. In Reid Park, the lake system and the zoo are also named Reid. Reid Park was originally called Randolph Park.  The park’s name was changed to Reid Park in 1978.  In 1965 Reid established the zoo that bears his name.
