End of the World Movement in Tucson

There was a religious movement in Tucson that had a leader who predicted the end of the world. Bill Maupin was the leader of the Lighthouse Gospel Tract Foundation. Bill Maupin predicted that the world would end on June 28, 1981.  Maupin and his followers prepared for the end of the world by various methods.  They sold their homes and quit their jobs so they could devote more time to scripture and study.  On June 28, 1981 the group met at Maupin's house to await the end of the world. When the world did not end on June 28, Maupin made a further prediction the end of the world would occur on August 7, 1981.
