David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz Park

On October 22, 2001, Oury Park had its name changed to David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz Park.  This park is located at 600 W. St. Mary's Road. (Near St. Mary's and I-10.)
This park was originally named after William S. Oury on June 29, 1931.  William Oury was first appointed mayor of Tucson in 1871.  He served as a sheriff of Tucson for many years.
David G. Herrera worked at Santa Rosa Park from 1950 to 1964.  He later worked at Oury park.  He organized sports for youth at Oury park.  He helped organize home repairs for low-income residents in the area.  He also organizes the "Procession de Viernes Santo" on "A" mountain on Easter weekend.
Ramon Quiroz worked with David Herrera.  He started a senior softball league that has been in existence for 15 years.  He has organized and maintained the Barrio Anita Basketball tournament for the last 20 years.
