Starr Pass Boulevard—Origin of Name

Starr Pass is named after Richard Starr who pioneered a stagecoach trail through the Tucson Mountains. Starr built the path in 1884, as a quick route to Quijotoa, a mining boomtown 70 miles to the southwest of Tucson.
The City of Tucson renamed this part of 22nd street in 1992. Chris Ansley the owner of JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa and Starr Pass Country Club & Spa persuaded the city to use the Starr Pass name.
“Starr Pass is homage to stage driver, not a spelling flub. Arizona Daily Star. July 5, 2010. Page A3.
